We are looking for enthusiastic and reliable volunteers to join the team as Event Stewards to help support the smooth and safe running of the festival.

Event Stewards play a key role in creating a welcoming and well-managed environment for visitors, performers, traders, and crew.

What Does an Event Steward Do?

As an Event Steward, you may be positioned in different areas across the festival site. Roles may vary throughout the day and stewards may move between tasks depending on where support is needed.

Responsibilities may include:

Traffic & Vehicle Support

Event Stewards may assist the Traffic Team in managing vehicles entering and moving around the site. This can include helping guide supplier, trader, and crew vehicles safely across certain areas of the festival site, supporting car park management, and ensuring pedestrian areas remain safe.

Parade Support

Stewards may help support the festival parade as it travels through a pedestrianised route around town before entering Midsummer Common and arriving at the centre of the festival site. Duties can include helping keep the procession moving, assisting with crowd flow, shaking donation buckets, and reporting any issues to Event Control.

Roaming Stewarding

Some stewards will patrol different zones of the festival site in pairs. These roaming stewards act as the eyes and ears of the event, monitoring the site and reporting any concerns to Event Control.

This may include:

  • Monitoring crowd flow and queues
  • Reporting overflowing bins or site issues
  • Assisting members of the public
  • Reporting medical or security concerns

Static Steward Positions

Some steward roles will involve monitoring specific areas such as emergency exits around the external fence line. These positions ensure emergency access routes remain clear and can be opened quickly if required. Volunteers in these positions will be given additional training in emergency procedures. This role is generally less physically demanding and seating may be available.

Queue Management

Stewards may also help manage queues around facilities and traders to ensure queues do not block walkways or cause congestion. This role involves helping keep queues organised and communicating with Event Control if crowd flow becomes an issue.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for volunteers who are:

  • Friendly and approachable
  • Calm and confident in busy environments
  • Good communicators
  • Comfortable working as part of a team

Some roles may involve being on your feet for extended periods, while others are more stationary.

Training & Support

  • Training evening: 20th June in Cambridge
  • Onsite briefings and support will be provided throughout the event
  • No previous experience is required for most roles

Shifts

  • 4-hour volunteer shifts
  • Opportunities to volunteer for multiple shifts
  • Exact shift times will be confirmed closer to the event

How to Apply

To volunteer as an Event Steward, please follow the application link which will be sent to you when you express interest in this role and complete the online form

Once your form has been submitted, the team will contact you with further details about training, shifts, and next steps.

We look forward to welcoming you to the stewarding team and helping deliver a fantastic festival.
