Summary

Independent Monitoring Boards are made up of over a thousand unpaid volunteers operating in every prison in England and Wales, and every immigration detention

Detailed description

IMB members are the eyes and ears of the public, appointed by ministers to perform a vital task: independent monitoring of prisons and immigration detention. They report on whether the individuals held there are being treated fairly and humanely and whether prisoners are being given the support they need to turn their lives around. This can make a huge difference to the lives of those held within these facilities.

We are currently recruiting for monitors at HMP Littlehey, HMP Whitemoor and HMP Peterborough

About Independent Monitoring Boards

Independent Monitoring Board (IMB) members are unpaid public appointees, appointed by Ministers. We report on whether detained individuals are being treated fairly and humanely and are being given the support they need to turn their lives around. This can reduce their risk of re-off ending when released back into the community.

We welcome people from all walks of life, you just need to be over 18 and live within 30 miles of the place you’ll be monitoring. All necessary training and support will be provided during the 12 month induction and mentoring period.

If you are interested in joining, we’re recruiting nationally from 6th March 2025 and the Independent Monitoring Boards at HMP Whitemoor, HMP Littlehey and HMP Highpoint are looking for people who live locally to join their teams.
