Age 11-17? Join the Fens Youth Rangers to learn practical conservation skills for free. This month: pond dipping, spring walk and litter picking in Peterborough

Youth Rangers is a group for secondary-aged young people (11-17 years) keen to make a positive difference to their local environment. We meet throughout the year at various Cambridgeshire nature reserves and would love to welcome you to our group.

Join us for another fantastic session of learning real, practical conservation skills, learning from industry professionals and making a positive impact for wildlife. You do not need any experience to attend. This month we'll be joining a Peterborough City Council Wildlife Officer to discover the species which call Basil Green Pond home. Record the wildlife found both above and below the water, spot signs of spring and help look after the local woodland with a litter pick. This session will provide opportunities to learn aquatic invertebrate ID through pond dipping, and how to record wildlife.

Please note:

Bookings are not confirmed until we have received your completed paperwork and consent form (for each child).

Please bring water and dress appropriately for the weather - Layers and waterproofs as needed. Long sleeves, trousers and hiking boots/wellies are recommended. Refreshments provided (hot drink and biscuits).

On booking you will receive an email with further guidance but if you have any more questions please do get in touch with Communities and Education Officer Laura at [email protected]

Getting there

About Wildlife Trust BCN Great Fen

The Great Fen is a vast fenland landscape between Peterborough and Huntingdon, home to two National Nature Reserves - Holme Fen and Woodwalton Fen, protected for their unique habitat and the varied wildlife they support. The area is currently benefiting from one of the largest restoration projects of its type in Europe and the landscape is being restored and transformed for the benefit both of wildlife and of people. We offer a variety of volunteering opportunities and events for people to get closer to nature and make a positive impact on the environment.
