Trustee - CPRE Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
This is an excellent opportunity to play a senior role in a respected environmental charity, bringing your planning, management and strategic thinking skills and experience to make a real difference and to be part of a friendly and passionate group.
About CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England) Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
We strive to protect the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough countryside from unnecessary built-development by encouraging planning authorities to use previously-developed land before greenfield sites.
We scrutinise and comment on local, regional and district-wide planning documents. We examine individual planning applications which affect the countryside (e.g. large housing schemes – free standing new settlements or urban extensions, windfarms, solar farms and new road schemes).
England’s leading countryside charity comprises a National Office and 42 local CPREs, each operating as a separate charity. At a national level, CPRE campaigns for a beautiful and thriving countryside that is valued, enjoyed and accessible to everyone.
We are looking for trustees to join us to help strengthen our board of trustees and develop our forward plan and vision.
What will you be doing?
The Executive Committee of CPRE Cambridgeshire and Peterborough is the governing body of the charity and is collectively responsible for the leadership and direction of the charity. The role of a trustee includes:
· contributing actively to the role of the Executive Committee in giving strategic direction to the organisation, defining goals and setting targets
· developing and overseeing implementation of our forward plan
· offering independence, external perspective, skills and challenge
· mentoring and supporting the staff and volunteers.
What are we looking for?
· a commitment to CPRE
· a willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a trustee
· strategic vision
· good, independent judgement
· an ability to think creatively
· a willingness to speak their mind and participate fully in meetings
· a strong interest in countryside and/or environmental issues
You will be home-based, carrying out activities around your other commitments. We anticipate this voluntary role will take 2-3 hours per week, with attendance at six online meetings per year (evenings). In accordance with our constitution, our Trustees have the option to serve for up to 6 years.
What difference will you make?
This role will give you the opportunity to contribute to our forward plan and help steer the direction of CPRE Cambridgeshire and Peterborough; to influence others; to mentor and motivate volunteers and staff; to use your skills to make a positive difference in your local area.
What’s in it for you?
· A great opportunity to use your existing experience and to develop new skills
· Working with others to make a difference both locally and nationally
· The potential to meet and discuss issues with a wide range of like-minded people
· Opportunities to attend local and national CPRE activities, events and workshops
· Support and training , including induction, peer-to-peer support groups and online training and seminars
The role is voluntary although we will pay all out-of-pocket expenses with prior agreement, in line with our Volunteers Policy.
What we will provide to volunteers
💸 Reimbursement of costsAbout CPRE Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
We campaign locally and nationally (alongside national CPRE) for positive solutions to safeguard the long-term future of the countryside. Nationally, we produce in-depth research and sound arguments to press the government, Parliament and other decision-makers to support the countryside – by protecting precious green belts, promoting urban renewal and restricting development on greenfield sites, and campaigning for the protection of our most important national landscapes as well as the countryside on our doorstep.
