Food Hub Saturday Session Lead

Our Saturday Food Hub sessions are completely volunteer led and run: we need more volunteers who would be interested in training to be a Saturday Session Lead. The shift tends to be 9:30-12:45 but it can be split into two shifts if needed. The role is flexible in terms of how often you volunteer but ideally at least once every 2 months.

The role involves:

• Overseeing the operations of the Food Hub for the session e.g. the different stations are set up for the session.
• Ensuring the team are following health and safety and food hygiene procedures and the appropriate data is being recorded for the session e.g. recording fridge and freezer temperatures.
• Acting as the point of contact to the public during the session and reporting any issues or safeguarding concerns to the staff team.

Skills needed:

• Ability to confidently speak to people in a positive manner- both volunteers and visitors to the Food Hub.
• Literacy skills to be able to follow instructions and complete Session Log.
• Happy to work with a phone, tablet and computer during the sessions (we provide all these).
• It's helpful if you're able to lift crates of food, but this is not essential.

We're particularly in search of volunteers who are happy to get trained up to be on our Pantry checkout. This involves using a tablet and card reader to take payments and using a computer to track attendance of Pantry members.

Training provided:

• Induction to the Food Hub (we suggest you volunteer a few times as a regular session volunteer before leading a session).
• Basic safeguarding training
• Level 2 Food Hygiene
• Shadowing a Session Lead
• This role also requires you undertaking an adult DBS check
