Summary

10 week outdoor project for parent and child focused on improving mental and emotional wellbeing.

Detailed description

What is this role all about?

Conversation and Conservation is an outdoor activity project for parent and child focused on improving mental and emotional wellbeing. We meet weekly for 10 weeks and spend time together in nature, and participate in a range of bush craft, art and conservation activities. The project gives participants an opportunity to create fun memories together in a new and nurturing environment, to spend time together away from other demands, and explore how nature can boost their mood. The sessions are facilitated by a youth worker and a therapeutic practitioner.

By being involved you can...

  • support families to develop communication skills
  • develop skills for working with children and families
  • get creative and try new activities
  • look after your wellbeing by spending time outside in nature
  • learn more about wildlife and nature in your local area
  • help with conservation tasks to support local biodiversity

What skills do I need?

Some experience working with children and families is helpful, but more important is being empathetic and a good communicator. Bush craft and art experience is useful, but not essential. You must be happy to be outside in most weathers, and get stuck in to messy activities.

Is there any training or support available?

  • Basic safeguarding training is required and will be provided.
  • A DBS check is a requirement of this role.
  • Guidance and support on safe use of tools will be provided.
