Live in Fenland? Volunteer with the Victim & Witness Hub to support victims of crime living in Cambridgeshire and help people through difficult moments.

Make a real difference in your local community

Are you based in Fenland and looking for a meaningful volunteering role where you can support people at some of the most difficult times in their lives?

Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s Victim & Witness Hub is looking for compassionate and committed Community Volunteers to provide emotional and practical support to victims and witnesses of crime living in the local area.

What does the role involve?

As a Victim & Witness Hub Community Volunteer, you will:

  • Provide emotional and practical support to victims and witnesses of crime
  • Offer face‑to‑face or virtual support, depending on individual needs
  • Work alongside a dedicated professional team within the Victim & Witness Hub
  • Support people in a non‑judgemental, impartial and respectful way

Some volunteers may also have the opportunity (with additional training) to support restorative justice conversations, helping people affected by crime to feel heard and supported.

What skills or experience do I need?

You don’t need previous experience in criminal justice or victim support. We’re looking for people who:

  • Are empathetic, calm and emotionally resilient
  • Communicate clearly and sensitively
  • Can remain impartial and non‑judgemental
  • Are comfortable using basic IT (training and equipment provided)
  • Have access to transport and home Wi‑Fi

Above all, you’ll have a genuine desire to help people and make a positive contribution to your community.

Time commitment

  • Minimum of 6 hours per month
  • Support is delivered flexibly across Cambridgeshire, with a particular need in Fenland
  • Occasional visits to our hub in Peterborough (Thorpe Wood) for training, meetings and team support

Training, support and expenses

We offer comprehensive training and ongoing support, including:

  • A full induction and role‑specific training
  • Ongoing development opportunities (including trauma‑informed practice)
  • All equipment provided (laptop and phone)
  • Travel expenses reimbursed in line with policy

Vetting

This role requires NPPV Level 2 police vetting and is managed by the Constabulary at no cost to you. Support will be provided throughout the process.

Why volunteer with us?

Our volunteers consistently tell us that this role is:

  • Personally rewarding
  • Flexible alongside work or other commitments
  • A chance to make a real, tangible difference to people’s lives
  • A great way to develop transferable skills and confidence

Interested?

If you live in Fenland and would like to use your time and skills to support victims and witnesses of crime, we’d love to hear from you.
