Summary

We are looking for someone who is kind, calm and unflappable, to accompany a lived experience expert to trainings and support her when she has a seizure.

Detailed description

TEOM delivers training to organisations and people at various locations around the county with people who have lived experience of different conditions and disabilities. One of our lived experience experts needs a little extra help to perform her training role, as she is experiencing frequent seizures. We are looking for someone who can accompany this lived experience expert to trainings in different locations about once a month, usually in the afternoon, from 12:30 to 4:30pm. You do not need a medical background, although some caring experience would be very helpful. Own transport is preferable but not essential. Your role will be to befriend our expert; sit with her if she experiences a seizure; make a decision as to when to call for help; provide recovery support (offering a drink, tissues, back rubs, whatever is needed); and communicate with the training facilitator in an open and honest way.

About The Expert On Myself (TEOM) CIC

We are a Community Interest Company in Cambridgeshire, helping people speak and organisations listen. We create opportunities for people to educate professionals about the issues that affect them. Our expertise comes from lived experience. This decade has seen an explosion of social awareness and a desire to improve the world around us. We believe that most people want to include those who have been excluded and marginalised, but don’t always know how to do this. We set up TEOM because we believe that the best way to be successful at inclusion is to involve your community from the very start. Within each individual is a wealth of knowledge about what their needs are and how these can best be met. TEOM connects people with lived experience, to organisations who would like to use this expertise to inform their projects, policies and practices.
