Summary
Assist with cooking for our Friday Lunch Club, which provides company and community for older and elderly adults.
Detailed description
Lunch is served weekly on Fridays at 12.30pm. Our Friday lunch club is for older people aged 65+ and includes some who are very elderly and isolated.
As a cooking Kitchen Assistant you will arrive between 9am and 10am (depending on lead cook's plan) to assist with cooking a two course meal. You will chop vegetables, stir pans, wash up and generally help out under the direction of the lead cook. There is the opportunity to become a lead cook once you are familiar with the kitchen.
At 12pm other helpers will arrive; you can leave at this point or stay to help during the meal.
If you stay, then during lunch you will serve each course to the tables and clear away again, and afterwards you will clean and tidy the kitchen. You will be finished at 2pm.
Between serving, you are more than welcome to sit and eat, and socialise with those attending the meal.
For many guests, this is a core part of their weekly routine and they really value the lunch clubs as a reason to get out the house and meet people. It's about far more than the food.
