Summary
Creative/sustainable sewing activities, supporting socially isolated people experiencing mental health issues (Ukrainian refugees and UK mixed group).
Detailed description
Sewing volunteers/textile artists and fibre artists to support a variety of weekday daytime (mostly) and occasional weekend/evening activities from one off events to 8 week courses. You will assist out tutors with setting up sewing machines (we can show you how to do this!).
We already have a tutor for different services but are also volunteer and peer-support led. You will be supporting delivering our sewing activities and courses, making sure participants have materials they need, encouraging them with positive feedback on progress and helping to clear the space after the sessions - our mantra is 'Embracing imperfection in our stitches as well as ourselves'. Volunteers can join our WhatsApp community for the group, where you will meet other creative volunteers and participants, who share resources and ideas from the course.
We provide safeguarding, mental health first aid training, opportunities to sew with our other volunteers, social events and engagement activities. We also pay expenses for local travel and lunch meal deals if you are supporting a day long session (like our Saturday Sewing Cafes).
Our participants are adults facing mental health, long term chronic health conditions, loneliness, social isolation, discrimination. We also work with Ukrainian and other refugees based outlying in Cambridge City.
