Could you be our newest volunteer peer supporter?
Are you a mother? Could you offer support to families in your local area? Do you have 2 hours per week available to volunteer? Would you like to train with us for free, learn new skills and gain a level 2 OCN qualification?
As a peer supporter you have the chance to make a real difference to local families. We know that local families really value peer support as part of a wider network of local services. Peer supporters listen to parents, offer support and encouragement, offer information and signpost to other relevant services. Peer supporters volunteer at our face to face groups, in Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke hospitals and on phone calls to mothers.
“I signed up to train as a peer supporter to help women feel supported in their choices. It’s important to me that women can trust in their bodies and abilities, and I hope I can help in some small way with that as a peer supporter. I enjoyed the content of the training as expected, but I was surprised to find it was a highlight of my week to spend time with likeminded women and gain some friendships with other mums locally.”
Jasmine, local Mum and new peer supporter.
Full Open College Network (OCN) accredited Peer Supporter training will be provided by an NCT trainer. (3 hours online training per week for 7 weeks) Monthly ongoing training sessions are also provided to ensure safe practice.
Places will be offered subject to a satisfactory informal interview.
The course requires a minimum of three months combined breastfeeding experience (including expressing). However, there is space later in the application form for you tell us more about your breastfeeding experiences if you haven't breastfed for this period of time.
NCT Birth, Feeding and You is jointly commissioned by Peterborough City Council and Cambridgeshire County Council to provide community infant feeding and emotional well-being peer support across Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.
