Summary

We are looking for people with the passion, skills and time to train as volunteer debt advisers in the Huntingdon Area, making a real difference to clients.

Detailed description

HAMA has a small team of dedicated volunteers who have trained to know how to help clients facing money worries. We see if we can help to maximise income and reduce unnecessary expenditure. We can then suggest appropriate debt solutions for the client's circumstances. It might be a debt repayment plan, negotiating with creditors to pay off debts affordably and in a reasonable time. It might be helping the client to access one of the forms of legal insolvency where the debts are written off, giving a fresh start without the strss and worry of debt.

Previous experience in the finance or debt sectors is nor required, although could be helpful.

The work is done largely from home by email and phone, although some face to face appointments with clients are arranged in various locations, usually in Huntingdon, Godmanchester or Ramsey.

Full training and equipment are provided free of charge. There is always access to expert help.

Person requirements:

  • Someone with a passion for helping those who are struggling with the oppression and worry debt, often through no fault of their own.
  • Good IT skills with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Organised, methodical and having attention to details
  • Tenacity to follow up on behalf of clients
  • Time to train for the role (over several months) and then be available to see clients, initially along side an experienced adviser.

The time commitment is flexible, but ideally the volunteer will be available for at least two weekdays a week, or one weekday with additional time in the evening or at weekends.

HAMA was founded in 2013 by Churches Together in Huntingdon and Godmanchester. In that time we have seen over 800 clients and have built a strong reputation for providing valuable help which changes lives for the better.

As a Christian organisation we expect volunteers to agree to our Ethos Statement, which says that the Christian faith is our motivation for what we do.
