Summary
Sporting Memories uses sport to spark chats, combat loneliness, and boost wellbeing. Lead sessions that make a real difference in livesDetailed description
Sporting Memories sessions are friendly, inclusive gatherings where older adults come together to share stories, spark memories, and enjoy the power of sport past and present. Each session typically lasts 60–90 minutes and includes:
Group conversation: Guided discussions around sporting moments, memorabilia, or themed topics (e.g. “Olympic memories” or “local heroes”).
Memory triggers: Use of newspapers, photos, quizzes, and video clips to prompt stories and laughter.
Light activity: Optional games or gentle seated exercises to encourage movement and fun.
Social time: A relaxed cuppa and chat to build friendships and reduce isolation.
We’re seeking a Lead Volunteer to help steer the group and keep the energy flowing. You’ll be supported by existing volunteers and staff, but your role is to:
• Lead conversations with warmth and confidence, encouraging everyone to share and feel heard.
• Support group dynamics, ensuring everyone is included and engaged.
• Coordinate with the venue and team, helping with setup, refreshments, and feedback.
You’ll be great if you…
• Enjoy chatting and listening to others
• Have a passion for sport or community wellbeing
• Are reliable, organised, and happy to take the lead
• Want to make a real difference to people’s live
