Summary
The Secretary supports the Chair, organising meetings (often online) and taking minutes; also helps with general admin, events, liaison with partners.
Detailed description
FCHCB organises litter picks and conservation activities, displays and stalls at local events, and helps with wildlife and water quality monitoring of the brooks, and creating public awareness of the City’s chalk streams. The Committee meets c. 4 times a year, either on line or in person, and holds an annual AGM. The Secretary would work with the Chair to prepare the agenda and organise dates, location etc. They would take the minutes, circulate documents, help to maintain records and, when needed, communicate and correspond with FCHCB’s partner groups. We work closely with the Wildlife Trust, Cam Valley Forum, RiverCare, Cambridge City Council, and the Cam Catchment Partnership. We are looking for someone to join us as soon as possible.
What skills do I need?
Basic digital skills including ability to prepare Word documents and use email, schedule Zoom meetings. A willingness and some skill in general communication would be useful.
Is there any support available?
Given that we have had no Secretary for some time, other committee members have stepped in with these tasks and will be very happy to share their knowledge and provide support. We have a variety of skills on the Committee covering for example, social media, website maintenance, and event organisation.
What else do I need to know
The key requirements are for someone to help with Committee meetings and the AGM. However, there is scope for greater involvement and we would welcome this if the person has available time.
What volunteers need
🗣️ Native language skills
What we will provide to volunteers
💸 Reimbursement of costs
🤝 Extra support
About Friends of Cherry Hinton and Coldhams Brooks (FCHCB)
Friends of Cherry Hinton and Coldhams Brook (FCHCB) are a group of mainly local residents who banded together in 2009, initially triggered by the need to clear the rubbish from the both Brooks and their environs, between Cherry Hinton Hall and the River Cam.
