Summary
The Chair leads the group, runs committee and AGM meetings, manages the group overall. Great opportunity to use/develop leadership skills!
Detailed description
FCHCB organises litter picks and conservation activities, such as displays and stalls at local events, and helps with wildlife and water quality monitoring of the brooks, and creating public awareness of the City’s chalk streams. The Committee meets c. 4 times a year, either on line or in person, and holds an annual AGM. The Chair would work with the Secretary (position being advertised) to prepare the agenda and organise dates, location etc. They would lead the meetings and help the Secretary as required to ensure that the records are maintained. They would also take the lead in developing relationships with FCHCB’s partner groups. We work closely with the Wildlife Trust, Cam Valley Forum, RiverCare, Cambridge City Council, and the Cam Catchment Partnership. We are looking for someone to join us as soon as possible. The current chair is happy to support the handover to a new person.
What skills do I need?
Basic management and leadership skills. The group has always worked closely as a team and the Chair should be willing to collaborate with other Committee members and learn from their long experience, whilst also bringing in new ideas. Basic digital skills including ability to prepare Word documents and use email, schedule Zoom meetings etc required. A willingness and some skill in general communication would be useful.
Is there any support available?
The intention is that the current Chair would co-Chair with the new person for a period of time, before handing over. Other committee members will be very happy to share their knowledge and provide support, and have a variety of skills covering for example, social media, website maintenance, and event organisation. We are also seeking a Committee Secretary.
What else do I need to know
The amount of time involved can be variable, depending on activities that the Group decides to undertake or be involved with. We are used to working very flexibly, given that Committee members have other work and family commitments. Essentially, there is scope for as much involvement as you would like.

About Friends of Cherry Hinton and Coldhams Brooks (FCHCB)
Friends of Cherry Hinton and Coldhams Brook (FCHCB) are a group of mainly local residents who banded together in 2009, initially triggered by the need to clear the rubbish from the both Brooks and their environs, between Cherry Hinton Hall and the River Cam.
