Summary
We are looking to attract several new trustees to strengthen our board.
Detailed description
We are looking to attract several new trustees to strengthen our board. We are particularly interested in individuals with experience in health/social care, social housing, cyber risk and IT, property or property maintenance and finance.
Here at Emmaus Cambridge, our companions play an important role alongside our Trustee Board and staff helping to shape decisions and using their valuable lived experience to continually improve our community for our current companions, future companions and people in the wider community who may have experienced or been at risk of homelessness.
As a board member you will constructively challenge and respect healthy discussions to reach decisions together. Decisions made, with the input of our companions and for the benefit of our companions, whilst also protecting the charities long-term sustainability.
Our Board, which is currently 8 strong, will be crucial in helping our team achieve our 2024 to 2029 strategy.
In addition to the Board each trustee sits on one or more committees and may also join project focussed working groups as required.
We have three committees: Resources Committee, Business Committee and Community and Solidarity Committee. Board meetings and committee meetings are held quarterly, except for our resources meeting which takes place bi-monthly.
Duties
• To engage with a personalised induction programme and complete necessary training
• To attend and actively participate in Board meetings, having prepared by reading the reports and minutes to previous meetings provided
• To attend your designated committee meetings
• To participate in and attend any working group of which you are a member
• To understand the need to contribute to and to share responsibility for decisions of the Board
• To be present in other meetings internally or externally, as required, this may include reviewing board performance, strategy progress or Federation developments
• To become a director of Emmaus Cambridge Homes (subject to trustee specialism)
We are always interested in hearing from people who want to use their skills and experience to help a local charity. If you are interested, please contact us by telephone or via our webpage

About Emmaus Cambridge
Companions, as our residents are known, are offered a home for as long as they need it, as well as meaningful work at our social enterprise – our store in Landbeach - where we recycle and sell pre-loved furniture and other household goods, donated by local people. This approach gives companions the opportunity to take stock of their lives, deal with any issues they may face, reconnect with loved ones and rebuild the self-esteem that is often destroyed when they become homeless.
