In order to qualify for the Communities for Afghans scheme that welcomes refugees settling in the area we need a core group of people committed to supporting
The Communities for Afghans scheme, run by the Refugee Council relies on community groups to help support the family when they arrive. This can be anything from helping them with paperwork and taking them to hospital appointments to doing gardening and befriending them. While being able to drive is definitely helpful, there are plenty of admin tasks associated with this as well so a car isn't essential.
The first step in the process is securing accommodation so we are not yet supporting a family, but once housing is identified we will want to ensure that we have the support group in place. To start with you will need to agree for the Refugee Council to carry out a DBS check and commit to about an afternoon's worth of training
