Summary
Become a Visitor Welcome Volunteer and help support the day-to-day running of the admissions kiosk and gift shop with a friendly welcome to the site.
Detailed description
Hours:
- By mutual arrangement and as required on days we are open to the public.
- Thursday to Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays from March to October.

Duties:
- Welcome visitors and sell admission tickets
- Provide information on Denny Abbey and the Farmland Museum, answering visitor questions and queries
- Use a touch-screen till to process cash and card purchases in the shop
- Sell gift shop products and re-stock shelves
- General housekeeping duties to ensure the shop is clean and safe
- General administrative duties
Optional duties:
The museum has a small volunteer team and we all work together to support the museum as best we can. From time to time you may be asked to help out with event days, children’s craft activities, serving in the kiosk, tidying the site, helping in the café, and so on, as necessary. Training for specific tasks will be given when needed.
Training
- Observation and shadowing of kiosk staff
- Training on use of the touchscreen till
- All relevant Farmland Museum Health & Safety, safeguarding and collections – related policies and procedures
Personal qualities required
- Enjoys working in a busy team environment with other volunteers, specialist staff and trustees
- Uses safe working practices at all times
- Ability to chat with customers and cultivate a friendly environment in the museum
- Happy to work independently, once feeling confident in the skills needed
- Interest in Fenland farming history, local history, museums or archives is helpful, but not essential
Notes
- An Application Form must be completed, emergency contact given and any medical conditions that may affect you while at the Museum notified in confidence to Museum Manager, who is a qualified First Aider.
- All appointments will be at the discretion of the Museum Manager and subject to a 6 week probationary period to confirm that the voluntary person is the correct choice for both parties.
- This role is purely voluntary and this arrangement is not meant to be a legally binding one or an employment contract
