Summary

We are looking for enthusastic and friendly volunteers to help deliver workshops to schools and family groups!

Detailed description

The Cromwell Museum engages about 1000 school users each year, in person and virtually. Primary and secondary students engage with us to learn more about Oliver Cromwell, the British Civil Wars, 17th century history, and more.

Our team of learning volunteers work with our Learning and Communities Officer to ensure school groups have an enjoyable and educational workshop, as well as to deliver family activities during school holidays.

You will support the Learning and Communities Officer to:

1.     Prepare resources and materials.

2.     Meet and greet schools upon arrival and support them during their visit.

3.     Deliver high quality workshops and tours to school groups from KS1-5. These may be in person at the Cromwell Museum, offsite in schools, or virtually via video conferencing software.

4.     Facilitate and support family activities and workshops during school holidays.

5.     Conduct feedback and evaluation surveys.

This role is for you if you are friendly and enjoy public speaking, are confident in working with children and young people, and are interested in history. No past teaching experience is required.

In volunteering with us, you will join a supportive and friendly team. You’ll be invited to attend monthly volunteer meetings, a Christmas party, and annual volunteers day out.

Commitment

School visits take place throughout the year during term-time, usually between 9am – 2pm on weekdays. The frequency of school visits is unpredictable and we cannot promise a certain number of shifts. Education volunteers will also have the opportunity to support family activities and workshops during school holidays, which take place during the day, usually on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 10am – 4pm.

Desirable Requirements:

·       Reliability and punctuality

·       Good communication and inter-personal skills

·       Ability to adapt your communication style to suit different age ranges and learning needs

·       Experience with children and young people

·       A reasonable level of written and spoken English

·       Enthusiasm and an interest in 17th century history

A DBS check may be required.
