Helping to provide a cafe service that offers local residents friendship and connection as well as rest and refreshment.

The Cherry Branch cafe is a new and much needed community cafe, and we are looking for volunteers who can help us flourish and grow. You will be working as part of a team, sharing cafe and kitchen responsibilities, under the guidance of an experienced cafe manager.

Our cafe is open to everyone in the local community - from young families to older people on their own, from those who feel socially isolated to those wanting somewhere to meet up with their friends. The cafe is an important part of Cherry Hinton Hub and serves as a focal and contact point for individuals and community organisations.

This role would best suit volunteers who live in Cherry Hinton and it's surrounding areas.

We're happy to talk with you about how you can contribute in a way that works best for you.

Your responsibilities could include:

• Greeting cafe customers, taking orders and payments.

• Serving food and drinks over the counter and to tables

• Assisting with food preparation

• Clearing tables and maintaining a welcoming cafe area.

• Checking orders, stock and food displays

• Washing up and ensuring that hygiene and safety standards are followed.

We will provide support and training, which will include learning about food safety and allergens. We don't require previous experience but it will help us if you are:

• Reliable and punctual

• Friendly, welcoming and understanding of diverse needs

• Able to work effectively alongside other people

You will also need to wear protective clothing (eg. apron, hat etc.).

We are sorry that we do not have the capacity to offer extra support.

Getting there

We are on the corner of High Street and Colville Road. There is no parking at the venue so we recommend using other transport if possible. There is a car park a short distance away on Colville Road. (NB. We are not the Leisure Centre! That is next door and has it's own car park).

About Cherry Hinton Hub

Cherry Hinton Hub is a new community centre in the growing, diverse ward of Cherry Hinton, Cambridge. It has been built in response to a strongly felt need for community facilities in the area and a long campaign by residents for somewhere to meet.

It is managed by Cherry Hinton Community Benefit Society (CHCBS), which is a charitable organisation. All of our income goes towards running the hub’s cafe and meeting rooms for the benefit of the community. We rely on the generous support of our community, and our volunteer work force is our life-blood.
