Love detective work and tidy data? Help cats thrive as a Research Volunteer (behind the scenes, big impact!)

Our vision for volunteering

Volunteering is and always will be at the heart of Cats Protection. It is joyful and inclusive. As a charity, working in partnership, together we transform the lives of cats, people and communities.

The difference you will make to cats and people

Every year, we’re able to help thousands of cats thanks to the generosity of the public.

Our Research Volunteers may be volunteering behind the scenes, but the impact you make is front and centre. By tracking down the right contacts and keeping key information accurate and organised, you help our fundraising messages reach exactly the right people.

It might feel like methodical detective work at times, but those neatly completed rows and well‑found names translate into real support for cats and the people who care about them.

If you enjoy purposeful activities, solving little puzzles, and the quiet satisfaction of finding exactly what you need, this role could be right up your street.

You can expect us to

  • Make you feel welcome, included and respected in line with our values and behaviours
  • Support you in having a positive and impactful experience at Cats Protection
  • Cover agreed out-of-pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy
  • Provide you with access to learning, development and engagement opportunities

What we need from you

Typical tasks might include:

·      Online research: Identifying relevant organisations,

contacts, or community groups using reliable sources.

·      Reaching out to people: Making phone calls or sending

friendly emails to gather or confirm information.

·      Keeping records up to date: Logging details clearly and

accurately in a spreadsheet or database.

·      Supporting our fundraising work: Helping us connect

with the right people so our appeals and messages

reach the most effective contacts.

·      Spotting opportunities: Noticing patterns, gaps, or new

organisations we could approach and sharing these

insights with the team.

·      Championing key messages and information helping

us maintain accurate data that strengthens our

communications and relationships improving how we

support cats and the people who care for them.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a clear task, takes pride in tidy information, and likes helping behind the scenes to make a real impact — especially if you’re organised, a friendly and confident communicator and happy reaching out to people.

Time expectation

Our Research volunteers usually spend around 2 hours per week in this role, but there’s no set commitment. You’re welcome to do more or less depending on what suits your schedule.

You may be just the volunteer we’ve been looking for!

If you have any questions about the role, please drop me a message.

We are committed to building a diverse, compassionate and inclusive organisation where everyone can be themselves and do their best. We are courageous and compassionate in our purpose of helping people see the world through cats’ eyes. Together, we can make a difference. Together, we are all for cats. Join the UK’s leading cat welfare charity and help make a better life for cats, because life is better with cats.
