Summary

Being first point of contact for enquiries for car scheme journeys. Coordinating with drivers/journeys and maintaining paperwork.

Detailed description

Community Car Schemes provide a lifeline to those who would otherwise be unable to get to a medical appointment or perhaps a social engagement. The passenger pays a fixed rate per mile contribution towards the cost of the journey to the volunteer driver who uses their own car. Care Network can put you in touch with your nearest independently run scheme.

Typically, Car Schemes can help with one-off journeys which are booked through a volunteer co-ordinator. Most Community Car Schemes rely on drivers based in the village or / town in which each scheme operates.

If you are interested in volunteering as a driver or helping your local Car Scheme in any way, please do get in contact with Care Network. Other roles could be helping with coordinating journeys, administration or with publicity.

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) provide administrative assistance with the process of becoming a volunteer driver.

A Car Scheme Coordinator Volunteer does not necessarily need to also be a driver.
