Role Title: Community Outreach & Inclusion Volunteer

Organisation: Woodcraft Folk (Cambridge District)

Location: Cambridge (Various community locations and local groups)

Role Purpose

The Woodcraft Folk is a co-operative youth organisation that brings children together to play, learn, and debate. We are seeking a dedicated volunteer to help ensure our groups reflect the vibrant and diverse makeup of Cambridge. Your primary goal will be to bridge the gap between our current activities and under-represented communities, fostering an environment where every child and young person feels they belong.

Key Responsibilities

  •  1. Community Engagement: Identify and build relationships with local community groups, cultural centres, religious organisations, and schools in diverse areas of Cambridge.
  • 2. Recruitment: Actively promote Woodcraft Folk to families and potential adult volunteers from minority ethnic backgrounds, lower-income households, and newly arrived communities.
  • 3. Representation: Attend local community fairs, markets, and meetings to share information about our "Education for Social Change" ethos.
  • 4. Feedback & Insight: Provide guidance to the Cambridge District on how to make our activities, venues, and communications more accessible and culturally inclusive.
  • 5. Direct Support: Help welcome new families during their first few sessions to ensure a smooth transition into the group.

Skills and Qualities

  •  - Local Knowledge: A good understanding of Cambridge’s diverse neighbourhoods and community networks.
  • - Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to talk passionately to people from all walks of life.
  • - Commitment to Equity: A deep-seated belief in social justice, cooperation, and the importance of inclusive youth work.
  • - Language Skills: Proficiency in a second language common in Cambridge (e.g., Arabic, Bengali, Polish, Spanish) is a significant advantage but not essential.
  • - Organised: Ability to manage your own time and follow up on leads independently.

 Benefits

  •  - Make a tangible difference in the lives of young people in Cambridge.
  • - Gain experience in community organising, marketing, and charity outreach.
  • - Full induction into Woodcraft Folk’s values and safeguarding policies.
  • - Travel expenses reimbursed as per district policy.

Commitment

  • Approximately 2–4 hours per week (flexible). This may include occasional weekend or evening community events.

Safeguarding: This role requires an enhanced DBS check, as you will be working in environments involving children and vulnerable adults.
