Detailed description
Help us build a more sustainable beer festival
We’re looking for a volunteer Environmental Sustainability Manager to help us continue to reduce our impact on the environment. It’s a great opportunity for you to gain experience and enhance your CV.
In recent years, the Cambridge Beer Festival has identified a number of areas where straightforward changes to how we run our event have reduced our environmental impact. This includes the use of low energy lighting, reducing the number of printed programmes, moving to compostable cutlery, and minimising the use of disposable cups and glasses.
We’re looking for someone to continue this work and take it further.
You’ll join us on site for a minimum of six days throughout our three week period of setup, open to the public, and take down. Exact dates are open to negotiation, but the majority will be during our open week, 18–23 May 2026.
You’ll have free reign to visit all areas of the festival and identify opportunities to minimise our impact on the environment. To gain a deep understanding of how we operate, you’ll join existing volunteer teams and help them in their work serving customers on the bar, at the entrance, on glass sales and washing, at corporate events, and spend time as part of the stewarding. site, management and administration teams.
This is a part time, volunteer role. We’re looking for someone who isn’t necessarily an expert in sustainability, but certainly has a strong interest and can demonstrate an understanding of potential areas of improvement at events like ours.
The output of your work will be a short, informal, written report for the festival organiser that identifies potential opportunities across our event. The festival working party will consider these carefully with a view to implementing them in future years.
When the festival is open to the public, like all our volunteers you’ll be well looked after, and receive drink and meal vouchers.
Interested? Tell us a little about who you are and why you’re interested. We don't use the application system here. Instead, you can drop us an email using the details on our website.
