Help shape the future of support for Deaf and hard-of-hearing people across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. You do not need to be Deaf or BSL user to apply.
Cambridgeshire Deaf Association (CDA) is looking for a committed and enthusiastic individual to join us as our Chair of Trustees.
CDA has been supporting the local Deaf community for over 100 years. Today, we provide a wide range of services, including advocacy, community activities, hearing aid support, befriending and specialist care.
As Chair, you'll play an important role in guiding the charity's future, supporting the Board of Trustees and working alongside our leadership team to ensure we continue making a positive difference.
What will the role involve?
- Providing leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees.
- Helping shape CDA's strategy and long-term development.
- Supporting good governance and effective decision-making.
- Working collaboratively with trustees and senior management.
- Championing the needs and interests of Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for someone with strong leadership and communication skills, sound judgement and a genuine commitment to our work.
Experience in charity governance, leadership or strategic planning would be valuable, alongside an understanding of the challenges faced by Deaf and hard-of-hearing people.
We welcome applications from people with different backgrounds and experiences, including those with lived experience of deafness or hearing loss.
Why join us?
This is an opportunity to contribute your skills and experience to an established local charity, influence its future direction and help improve accessibility, wellbeing and opportunities for Deaf and hard-of-hearing people.
Interested?
We'd love to hear from you. There is no closing date. We will keep looking until we find the right person, so get in touch whenever you are ready.
CDA has a policy that 50% of our Board should be sign language users and we strongly encourage BSL users to apply. However, due to current Board numbers we can consider applicants regardless of BSL fluency. We are committed to accessible recruitment and will make reasonable adjustments throughout the process.
We carry out routine checks (references, fit & proper declarations and any required safeguarding checks) as part of appointment. CDA provides a clear recruitment and induction schedule and training for new trustees.
