Summary
Class assistant needed to ensure the safety and well-being of people with Parkinson's Disease whilst they participate in specialised exercise class.Detailed description
Active with Parkinson's Cambs has grown from providing one class/week to now 8/week to meet the ever-growing demand for our specialised neuro-specific exercise classes to help control and suppress the symptoms of Parkinson's Disease.
We are looking for a caring, compassionate individual who would be willing to "walk the floor" at our class at Shelford Rugby Club on Wednesday afternoons. Whilst the class is from 1-2pm, it would be helpful if you could arrive beforehand to help set up and stay a little while afterwards to put away the quick assemble stage, chairs and ensure the room is left as found.
Working alongside our amazing instructor, Paul Goddard, the class assistant will ensure weights are stowed safely under chairs, help with resistance band placement, remind participants if medication needs to be taken within timeframe of the class, provide a drink if participant forgets to bring their own, etc.
An understanding or awareness of Parkinson's Disease would be beneficial but not essential. Ability to put people at ease also advantageous. You will be 'working' alongside our existing class volunteers.
We are an exceptionally friendly and welcoming bunch who appreciate everyone's help and support. Please get in touch if you'd like to make a real difference to the lives of those living with Parkinson's. DBS check will be required (at AWPC expense) and first aid training will be provided.
