Summary
We would like supportive sewers/ textile-friendly artists, to assist our creative tutor with textile and nature taster day and drop ins from Sept to March ‘25.Detailed description
This is a Taster Day for a drop in service which will happen Thursday mornings weekly from 12 Sept at Ross Street 10-12 weekly in term time for patients at 6 GP practices around the Mill Road, Petersfield, Cherry Hinton Road area.
This service is aimed at people experiencing either mental health issues, health issues, loneliness or isolation, and participants may have been referred by their GP or social prescriber.
The aim is to use sewing and textile art to improve wellbeing, increase social connections, try new skills and for participants to engage with social prescribers at the 6 GP practices on the flier.
We’d like volunteers who can support our creative tutor with simple textile and nature-based art and sewing activities. You don’t need to be a creative expert but some hand sewing experience and interest is appreciated. We will explain and train you on activities, which could include cyanotype printing onto fabric, leaf bashing, natural dyes and many more!
You don’t have to be available every week, we will put together a rota and we usually like to have 2-3 volunteers supporting our creative tutor. You will be volunteering with other Sew Positive volunteers, and will be able to volunteer for other sewing related services for people across Cambridgeshire. For this programme, we will only use limited sewing machines (which we have a number of basic Janomes), but are keen to find sewists of all levels for this and other programmes. We have a small but hugely valued team of volunteers and a variety of other volunteer opportunities on other days of the week too. We have a lovely bee hive community of sewers!
