Detailed description

Volunteer Mentor / Associate Director – EcoCoach CIC

Senior volunteer role, flexible weekly commitment, non-child-facing

EcoCoach CIC is a rapidly developing child-first organisation delivering wraparound care, alternative provision, coaching programmes and community work across Cambridgeshire. As we grow, we are seeking a calm, experienced and grounded volunteer to support our leadership team in a senior capacity.

This role is designed for someone who brings operational clarity, organisational maturity, and mentoring ability — helping our Founder maintain stability, structure and strategic focus.

This role begins as Volunteer Mentor / Associate Director.

If successful, and if both parties agree, this can progress to formal Director appointment after a trial period of 3–6 months.

Key responsibilities

You will support organisational leadership by:

  • Providing mentoring, grounded guidance and decision support
  • Helping create structure, systems and sustainable processes
  • Supporting operational oversight and internal organisation
  • Attending (remote) SLT / leadership meetings
  • Helping prioritise workload and stabilise operational flow
  • Advising on staffing, boundaries, communication and risk management
  • Checking in weekly with the Founder
  • Supporting calm, rational decision-making
  • Offering senior insight across admin, operations, and community work
  • Helping create a smoother leadership ecosystem

This is not a hands-on delivery role.

No child contact.

No frontline expectations.

Ideal volunteer

You may have experience in:

  • education, schools, or SEND
  • community organisations/CIC governance
  • operational leadership
  • project or organisational development
  • senior admin/operations roles
  • public sector roles (LA, NHS, AP, family support, commissioning)
  • mentoring or coaching adults

Most importantly, you are:

  • steady
  • emotionally mature
  • calm under pressure
  • logical and objective
  • organised
  • collaborative
  • values-driven
  • reliable
  • a clear communicator

Time commitment

Flexible — usually 6–12 hours per week

Including one weekly check-in and ad hoc support when needed.

What you will gain

  • A meaningful senior role supporting a high-impact CIC
  • Influence in shaping a developing organisation
  • Experience in governance, operations and leadership
  • The chance to mentor and stabilise a growing social enterprise
  • Opportunity to progress to a formal Director appointment (optional)

Where the role takes place

  • Remote (majority)
  • Optional in-person meetings in Cambridge
  • No DBS required — this role is non-delivery and non-child-facing.

Progression to Director

After a successful 3–6 month period:

  • Optional formal director appointment
  • Participation in strategic decisions
  • Supporting long-term organisational development

Progression only occurs with clear, mutual agreement.
